OFFICE BUILDING IN AMSTERDAM
In the Karl Lagerfeld project in Amsterdam, our product ‘BetonLook’ (concrete look) was used as clay wall plaster. We developed this product not too long ago in response to market demand. Our customers were tired of white walls and wanted to relax with this light greyish colour. A change from the endless boring shades of white. The Karl Lagerfeld headquarters in Amsterdam, located in an old canal palace on the Herengracht. This was ideal for our clay plaster. The architectural firm FRAMEWORK, also based in Amsterdam, developed the master plan for the design of this building. We had a lot of fun creating a large number of plaster samples to help the clients make their choice. Then everything happened very quickly. We had suggested applying a thin layer of clay plaster to create an ecological effect and ensure decent oxygen quality in the building.
HISTORY
For more than 44 years, our company has been working with clay in all its possible forms. After a five-year journey across the African continent, I brought my impressions back with me to my home country of Germany. Unfortunately, I was disappointed to discover that the modern construction methods of the time involved concrete and many chemical and metallic products. This was the starting point for me to begin building mainly with natural materials. Clay, straw, wood, reeds and natural tree resins, as well as starch and cellulose.
With a lot of luck, I managed to convince many people of my ideas. Today, we have succeeded in furnishing royal houses, presidential palaces, banks, museums, and the World Expo in Hanover. Also very elegant villas and thousands upon thousands of private homes with our materials.
With a good gut feeling, I was able to pass on my company Tierrafino to the next generation for reasons of age. It gives me great pleasure to see how young people are carrying on my ideas.
